Content That Makes Sales: How to Make High-Quality Content in 5 Steps

Wondering how to write content that makes sales?

If you want to create content that does more than receive a like or a view, there are specific marketing strategies to consider when writing content for your business.

Most of us are in business to make money, therefore content that we put into the marketplace needs to do more than raise brand awareness.

We also need to consider whether our content is attracting clients and generating sales?

How do you write content that makes sales in 5 steps?

Step 1. Know your target audience

Who are you helping and what are they looking for?

You need to know exactly who your perfect customer or client is, and how you can help them.

You need to structure your content around what matters to them.

Step 2. Challenge your audience

When you are developing article ideas, create a list of all the myths in your industry.

Then make a list of all the ‘truths’ or beliefs in your industry that are false or misleading.

Use this list for content ideas.

If your content is slightly controversial there is a better chance of it going viral because it might create some industry buzz.

As part of your long-term growth strategy, you should also consider evergreen content for your blog and YouTube channel videos.

Evergreen topics continue to generate clicks and views years after they are first posted.

Step 3. Show expertise

How you approach this will depend on whether your business is a B2B or B2C or both.

You’ll need to tailor your content in a way that speaks to your particular audience.

One of my clients had a new add-on product his salespeople had been trying to sell for almost 12 months.

The problem was none of them could explain the product in simple terms, so the clients weren’t interested.

I took the jargon-filled content they were using and rewrote it explaining the service and its benefits clearly and succinctly – the very next day the first sale was made!

In your content make sure to include case studies, testimonials, and experiences to build credibility.

Remember to post regularly to your blog and update your old blog posts yearly to keep your content fresh.

Step 4. Break it down in detail

This will depend on what you are selling, but the goal is to demonstrate how your way or your help will make their lives easier.

Your content has to show them that –

1 – The normal way is hard or ineffective
2 – Your way is easy and effective

In other words, you are selling the process and the end results.

Break your process into steps to show them how you do it.

Yes, people may choose to do it for themselves or they may end up paying you to do it for them because you’ve proved your authority.

You need to create two or three lead generation options to direct people to.

Some customers won’t want to buy off you straight away as they are at the beginning of the buying journey, you are building their trust so offer them a free report or information that’s useful to them.

When the time comes and they are ready to talk business, you have a good chance of getting the work because you have demonstrated your knowledge.

 These are the five steps I consider when creating content that sells for my business and for my client’s businesses.

After a while, those steps will come naturally, and you won’t even have to think about it.

My suggestion is to start reviewing your published content with a critical eye and consider whether you have been creating content that sells?
